Trim, bleed and the safe area
Three boxes, one inside the other:
- Bleed, the whole file: art that should touch the page's edge runs out to here, 0.125 in past the cut.
- Trim, where the page is cut: 6.625 × 10.25 inches. The cut can wander a little, which is why the bleed's there.
- Safe area, another 0.125 in inside the trim: keep words, faces and anything that mustn't be cut in here.
Some printers use a smaller bleed or a deeper safe margin; check their template before you start a whole issue.
