Rindraw Handbook

How to use Rindraw on iPad, iPhone and Mac, a feature a page. Pages that say Coming from Procreate? cover what works differently, or what Procreate doesn't have yet.

Selections

• Expand or contract a selectionGrow or shrink a selection by an exact number of pixels in Rindraw, on iPad, iPhone and Mac. Grow and Similar add what's like it.
• Draw a steady freehand selectionSteady Line smooths a freehand selection as you draw it in Rindraw, so a shaky hand still makes a clean edge.
• Save, name and load selectionsKeep selections with your drawing in Rindraw, name each one, and load any of them again later.

Layers

• Adjustment layersRindraw's adjustment layers change everything beneath them without touching its pixels: curves, levels, hue and saturation, gradient maps and more.
• Group opacity and blend modesFade a whole layer group, or give it a blend mode of its own, in Rindraw. Pass Through or Isolated, as in Photoshop.
• Clipping masks and masks on groupsIn Rindraw a layer group can be a clipping mask, a layer can clip to a group, and a group can have a mask of its own.
• Reference layers for fillsMark one or more layers Reference for Fills in Rindraw, and fills on other layers find their edges on the line art. Refill when the lines change.

Layer effects

• Outline a layer, for stickers and letteringRindraw's Outline filter draws a line round a layer's paint, outside it, and stays editable: sticker borders, lettering, cut-outs.
• Drop shadow on a layerRindraw's Drop Shadow filter casts a soft, offset shadow from a layer's paint, and stays editable as you draw.
• Make your drawing glowMake lights, neon and magic glow in Rindraw: a live Glow filter on a layer, Bloom, a blurred copy set to Add, and brushes that paint light.

Fills

• Fill line art with gapsRindraw's Fill tool closes small gaps in line art, fills under the lines, and refills when the lines change.

Moving and the view

• Move the anchor point when transformingIn Rindraw's Transform tool, drag the anchor point anywhere, and turning and scaling go round it.
• Lock zoom, turn or positionRindraw can lock the canvas's zoom, turn or position, so a resting hand can't move it by accident. Set a zoom limit too.

Keyboard

• Custom keyboard shortcutsSet your own keyboard shortcuts in Rindraw, start from Procreate's or Photoshop's, give brushes their own keys, and export the set.

Gallery and files

• Search, sort and stack the gallerySearch drawings by name, sort the gallery five ways, and put stacks inside stacks in Rindraw's gallery.
• Keep your library in iCloud Drive or a folderKeep Rindraw's drawings, stacks and brushes in iCloud Drive to sync them across devices, or in any folder in the Files app.
• Export JPEG XLRindraw exports lossless JPEG XL files, every pixel kept and usually smaller than PNG, one drawing or many at once.
