Open a Krita file without Krita
Drop a .kra file here to see the painting, show or hide its layers, and save it or any layer as a PNG, in your browser on Windows, Mac, a Chromebook, iPad or Android. No Krita, no account.
Free. Your file is read by your browser and never uploaded.
What it shows
- Krita's own saved image first, as the file was last saved, with everything in it.
- Every layer, with its name, opacity and blend mode, in its groups. Untick one to hide it, and the image is drawn again from its paint layers.
- The canvas's details: pixel size, resolution and color profile.
Saving a layer gives its own pixels, with transparency, in place on the canvas. Saving everything makes a ZIP of every paint layer plus the full image, numbered from the bottom up, ready for Procreate, Photoshop or GIMP.
What it can't do
- Vector, file, fill and filter layers, masks and layer styles aren't drawn when the image is redrawn from layers; Krita's saved image has them.
- Float, CMYK and Lab layers are left out of the redrawn picture.
- Animation shows the current frame only.
Keep working on it
Rindraw, our drawing app for iPad, iPhone and Mac, opens PSD files with their layers, so export from Krita as PSD to bring a painting across. This viewer also opens PSD and Procreate files.
Private by design
The viewer runs in the page. Your browser reads the file from your disk and draws it; nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and there's no account.
Questions
How do I open a .kra file without Krita?
Drop it into this viewer, in any current browser. It shows the image as Krita saved it, lets you hide paint layers, and saves the image or each paint layer as a PNG.
Is my Krita file uploaded?
No. It's read by your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.
Why are some of my layers not drawn?
Vector, file, fill and filter layers, and masks, aren't drawn when the picture is redrawn from layers. The first picture you see is Krita's own saved image, which has everything.
Which Krita files does it open?
Files from Krita 3 and later in RGB or grayscale at 8 or 16 bits; Krita's saved image shows for any of them. Layers in 16- or 32-bit float, CMYK or Lab are left out of the redrawn picture.
