Open a Procreate file, on any computer
Procreate only runs on iPad, but its files travel: by email, on Google Drive, from a client or an old backup. Drop a .procreate file here to see the artwork, show or hide its layers, and save it or any layer as a PNG, on Windows, Mac, Android or a Chromebook.
Free. Your file is read by your browser and never uploaded.
What it shows
- Every layer, with its name, opacity and blend mode, in its groups, as Procreate lists them. Untick one to hide it.
- Masks and clipping: layer masks hide what they should, and clipped layers paint only on the layer below.
- The canvas as drawn: its size, DPI, background color, and the way it was turned or flipped.
- Display P3 color, on screens and browsers that show it, for artworks made in a P3 profile.
Saving a layer gives the layer's own pixels, exactly as Procreate stored them, with transparency. Saving everything makes a ZIP of every layer plus the flattened artwork, numbered from the bottom up, ready to bring into Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint or GIMP.
Private by design
The viewer runs in the page. Your browser reads the file from your disk, puts its layers together, and draws them; nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and there's no account. You can load the page, turn off Wi-Fi, and it still works.
Other ways to open a .procreate file
- Export from Procreate. If you have the iPad, Share › PSD keeps the layers for Photoshop and most painting apps, and PNG gives a flat picture. It's the best route for the artwork's owner.
- Rename it to .zip. It opens, but inside are compressed tiles, not pictures, plus a small thumbnail in
QuickLook. That's why a viewer's needed. - Rindraw, our drawing app, opens
.procreatefiles with their layers, masks and blend modes on Mac, iPhone and iPad, so you can keep working on them (what comes over). See Procreate on Mac, Windows and Android for what else runs on a computer.
Questions
How do I open a .procreate file on Windows?
Procreate only runs on iPad, but this page opens .procreate files in any current browser on Windows. Drop the file in to see it and save its layers as PNG.
Is my Procreate file uploaded?
No. It's read by your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.
Can I just rename a .procreate file to .zip?
It opens, but the layers inside are compressed tiles, not pictures. A viewer puts them back together.
Why does my artwork look slightly different here than in Procreate?
Browsers can't draw a few of Procreate's blend modes (Subtract, Linear Burn, Hard Mix, Vivid, Linear and Pin Light, Lighter and Darker Color, Divide), so those show as Normal, and clipped layers keep their opacity but not their blend mode. Each layer's own pixels are exact.
Does it open brushes or Procreate Dreams files?
No: this is for artworks, .procreate. Brushes (.brush, .brushset) open in Rindraw, which imports them.
Rindraw opens Procreate files with their layers on iPad, iPhone and Mac. $12.99 once, no subscription.
