Adjustment layers
An adjustment layer changes the colors of everything beneath it, without changing the layers themselves. Change it, hide it or delete it whenever you like, and the painting underneath is as it was.
How to do it
- Open Layers.
- Touch and hold +, then choose New Adjustment.
- Pick one, such as Curves or Gradient Map. It opens to edit straight away.
- To change it later, tap the adjustment layer, then tap it again and choose Edit Adjustment…
Settings
- Kinds
- Hue, Saturation, Brightness; Brightness/Contrast; Levels; Curves; Invert; Gradient Map; Color Balance; Develop.
- Clipping Mask
- Clip the adjustment to the layer below, so it changes that layer alone.
- Mask
- Paint where it applies: black hides it, white shows it.
- Opacity
- Fades it in or out.
Tips
- Move an adjustment layer up or down the list to choose what it covers.
- Layers can also carry live filters, such as Gaussian Blur or Halftone, under Filters in the layer's options. They stay editable too.
