Moving from Krita to Rindraw

Rindraw opens Krita's own .kra files, with their paint layers, groups, blend modes and masks. There's nothing to export first.

Step by step

  1. Get the .kra to your iPad or Mac. Save as you always do in Krita, then AirDrop the file from a Mac, or put it in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or another folder that Files on the iPad can see. Rindraw for Mac opens it straight from your disk.
  2. Turn special layers into paint layers, if you have any. If the picture has vector, filter or file layers, or isn't 8-bit RGB, Rindraw brings it in flattened, as one layer, rather than leave anything out. To keep the layers, convert those to paint layers in Krita first (Layer › Convert), and save a copy as 8-bit RGB.
  3. Open it in Rindraw. Send it to Rindraw with AirDrop or the share sheet, or save it to Files and choose Import in Rindraw's gallery, where you can pick a whole stack of files at once. Each file becomes a drawing of its own.

What comes with you

Rindraw reads a Krita file's paint layers with their names, opacity, blend modes, visibility, locks and masks, in their groups, at the file's resolution.

Going back

Rindraw saves drawings as layered PSD files, which Krita opens, so you can sketch on an iPad and finish in Krita on a computer.

Questions

Can Rindraw open .kra files?

Yes, from Rindraw 1.5. Paint layers come in with their names, opacity, blend modes, masks and groups.

Why did my Krita file come in as one layer?

It has a vector, filter or file layer, or it isn't 8-bit RGB. Rindraw then brings in the whole picture flattened rather than leave those out. Convert them to paint layers in Krita, save, and import again.

Can I use my Krita brushes?

Not Krita's own presets (.kpp). Rindraw reads MyPaint brushes (.myb), Photoshop (.abr) and Procreate brushes.
